4 ways we’re celebrating 10 more years of sanctuary!
In celebration of our 10th anniversary, here’s four ways we’re celebrating 10 more years of sanctuary.
1. By becoming a sanctuary...for Youth:
Through school field trips, after school enrichment, and summer camps, we aim to exponentially increase our partnerships with Bay Area schools and youth orgs. In the last three years, we’ve hosted over 625 kids of all backgrounds, where they’ve connected with animals, nature, and organic farming; we aim to reach a few thousand in the coming decade. Students harvest veggies, make arts and crafts, help care for our residents, and build lasting friendships with each other and the animals.
2. Through Sanctuary & Storytelling as activism:
We’ve given over 600 animals access to dignity and comfort, free from the harms of being farmed, whether for lifelong sanctuary or temporary safe haven, such as fire evacuees While we can’t rescue our way out of the animal ag crisis, let alone respond to every rescue call we get, we can let our residents be advocates for their kind. We’ll keep telling their stories of resilience to thousands of visitors, inspiring folks to consider farmed animals in a compassionate light. A vegan world free from oppression starts right here--at sanctuary.
3. By improving care for our animal residents:
Hiring and training additional full-time staff allows us to provide holistic care for our over 100 animal residents. With half of our residents in their midlife and elder years, we’re tasked with supporting aging and ailing individuals who were never born to live long lives. Preventative and ongoing treatment through our veterinarians and supportive therapy practitioners have become staples of our care program, which we hope to keep providing. We’ll also focus on restoring 10 acres of grazing and swimming habitat, as well as critical infrastructure updates to facilities.
4. In strengthening relationships:
90% of our budget goes directly to running our education, garden, and animal care programs. We’re donor-funded and led by a scrappy team of volunteer Board of Directors, volunteer caregivers, and paid staff. Ensuring a sustainable 10 years ahead of us means we’re focusing on building better relationships with you: our donors and community, through more events, workshops, and donor appreciation. We aim to reach beyond our vegan circle, making our mission meaningful to a wider Marin & Bay Area community, anchoring Rancho Compasión as a trusted legacy organization.
