our Capital Campaign Is Underway!

We are halfway through one of the most transformative and busiest years of the sanctuary’s existence. From major capital improvements to our facilities and infrastructure, to starting up a teaching garden program, and test-driving a sanctuary collaboration, you’ve helped us to grow our impact for rescued animals and the hearts of the many people who come through here.

That’s why today, we’re launching a capital campaign to raise $15,000.

We know how important it is to understand how your dollars are making a difference. Below, we’ve listed some of the ways your contributions have and will continue to support this important work.

Recouping Medical Funds:

While there is no predicting who will need treatment when, medical expenditures are typically pretty spread out evenly throughout the year—except for those times where when it rains, it pours. And that was this past Spring. Daisy duck defied the odds with two surgeries, battling a life-threatening infection, and will now be fitted for prostheses, elder hen Grizelda had an oviduct surgery, Gamber received a partial hysterectomy surgery, elder sheep Joon is receiving ongoing care for her arthritis, and lone 2020 fire evacuee survivor Thetis is undergoing chemotherapy and will have a surgery. Whew, that’s a lot! We need to restore our medical funds and continue to promise our residents the top-quality care they absolutely need.

Infrastructure & Facilities Improvements:

After all the rains we had at the beginning of the year, we were overdue for some major improvements while also prepping the property in anticipation of having visitors back onsite. We created TWO new parking lots, leveled out an event space in front of the garden, fixed drainage issues, added a 5k gal. water tank and plumbing to the barn, cleaned up container-loads of debris and messes, and built two new pastures. Our next project: we are building a cow pasture at our neighbor’s property! They have generously allowed our cows and other residents to graze on their 15 usable acres.

Community Hub:

There’s nothing more critical than fostering community. In order to be adaptive and resilient to our society’s deleterious systems, we must support and care for one another—of all species. We’re implementing more community-centered programs, like workshops/“careshops,” family-friendly events, humane education, field trips, and our teaching garden! The beauty, abundance, and safety of the sanctuary should be shared with as many people as possible, but we can only make that happen with your support. We’ve begun to offer a pay-it-forward option at all ticketed events in order to build a solidarity-rate scholarship fund, and we are working to add more low-cost opportunities to visit and participate in our programs. Our hope is that this can be a sanctuary for ALL, not just for those with financial access. Next time you’re purchasing tickets for one of our upcoming events, will you throw in a little extra for the scholarship fund?

Venue Rentals:

Ever dreamed of a sanctuary wedding? We’re soft-launching the sanctuary as a venue rental space! In our move to make the sanctuary a little more self-sustaining, and invite people to experience the magic of this beautiful place, our 2024 books are now open for all kinds of site rentals: engagement parties, small weddings, corporate retreats, personal photo shoots, anniversaries, and more! Inquire with Dave by shooting him an email at dave@ranchocompasion.org.

We’re asking you to give, and if you can, please give generously.

This campaign to fundraise $15k will sustain us through the end of the year. We know this is not an easy time for many, but if many give just a little, and a few give substantially, we can absolutely reach our goal.
